Position Summary
The Coordinator of English Curriculum works with the PYP and MYP Coordinators and the Director of
Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment to ensure English language objectives are integrated throughout the
PYP Units of Inquiry and the MYP program. Position objectives include studying, evaluating, and implementing
research based curriculum decisions; supporting teachers in planning as it relates to content subjects taught in
English; ensuring that there is a careful scaffolding of the English language both horizontally and vertically; and
assisting in the coordination of relevant staff development.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Collaboration with faculty members, PYP and MYP Coordinators in the development, writing and
  2. implementation of Daystar Academy’s English language curriculum across the content areas, as well as the
  3. evaluation, purchase recommendations and incorporation of texts, resources and technology into
  4. classroom instruction;
  5. Working with the Coordinator of Chinese Curriculum to ensure that content subject being taught through
  6. the two languages are supporting each other without repeating each other;
  7. Collaborating with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment to implement school objectives
  8. related to English language (reading, writing, speaking and listening);
  9. Working with the PYP and MYP Coordinators to investigate and maintain an up-to-date research library,
  10. organizing and conducting professional development;
  11. To attend and participate in all school wide functions, professional development workshops and provide 
  12. workshops for parents on how to support English language learning at home;
  13. To participate in the observation of other classrooms;
  14. Other duties, as assigned by the School.
Qualifications & Requirements
  1. English as mother tongue
  2. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  3. 5+ years teaching experience (preferred)
  4. IB training (preferred)
  5. Creative problem solving skills
  6. Open-minded, enthusiastic, and willing to embrace a unique, multicultural school culture
